Definitions ( Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Rhyme and Ryth

Definition for Simile

Similes are used to compare 2 things. (people/actions/objects/animals)
Usually done with connectors like as.
Examples are: As fast as lightning.
As cool as a cucumber.
As though as a bull.
They also can be used to describe an object.
Examples are : As pretty as a car crash.
As smooth as sand paper.


Definition for Metaphor

A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison.
Examples are: All the world's a stage.
She's the apple of my eye.


Definition for Personification

A figure of speech in which inanimate objects or abstractions are endowed with human qualities or are represented as possessing human form.
Examples are: Opportunity knocked on the door.
Time waits for no man.

Definition of Rhyme

Correspondence of terminal sounds of words or of lines of verse.
Examples are: I shall try to say,
I love you amidst the fray.
All those things you thought,
and the wisdom that I sought.

The arrangement of words into a more or less regular sequence of stressed and unstressed or long and short syllables.
Examples are :

The wind in her hair
The chair that sat there
Eyes on eyes
