Watercolor

Watercolor (US) or watercolour (UK), also aquarelle from French, is a painting method. A watercolor is the medium or the resulting artwork, in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water soluble vehicle. The traditional and most common support for watercolor paintings is paper; other supports include papyrus, bark papers, plastics, vellum or leather, fabric, wood, and canvas. In East Asia, watercolor painting with inks is referred to as brush painting or scroll painting. In Chinese, Korean, and Japanese painting it has been the dominant medium, often in monochrome black or browns. India, Ethiopia and other countries also have long traditions. Finger-painting with watercolor paints originated in China.

Impressonism

Definition : Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that began as a loose association of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence in the 1870s and 1880s. The name of the movement is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satiric review published in Le Charivari.

Characteristics of Impressionist paintings include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles. The emergence of Impressionism in the visual arts was soon followed by analogous movements in other media which became known as Impressionist music and Impressionist literature.

Impressionism also describes art created in this style, but outside of the late 19th century time period.

Art Symbolism

Symbolist painting emphasizes on fantasy and imagination in their depiction of objects. The artists of the movement often uses types of metaphors and symbols to suggest a subject and favored mystical and occult themes. The movement strived to depict the symbols of ideas which were influenced by Romanticism and Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. The movement originated in France and spread across Europe. Symbolists were opposed to the visual realism of the Impressionists and serious nature of the Industrial Age. Their aim was to portray mysterious and ambiguous interpretations of emotions and ideas by using unobvious symbols. Some artists, which included Puvis de Chavannes, Moreau, and Redon, borrowed their imagery from Symbolist writings. These works would often contain grotesque and fantastical imagery such as severed heads, monsters, and spirits. Their works would sometimes contain additional references to the Bible and ancient myths. Other Symbolists took a more traditional approach, using lines and colors to produce emotional effects. The Symbolist movement was important to the development of the Surrealism.

Brian's Painting and Description

The Red heart represents the Bravery my mom has.
The Blue background signifies calmness.
White Roses represents Purity of my mother.
The plaster shows her protecting me like a plaster. One day, that plaster will be gone.
The cracks shows my wounds that she fixed with her plaster represented by the plaster.

Wei Jie's Poem

She is the one that keeps me strong
She is where all my strength comes from

No matter what trouble I may be
she is always there for me

She is the one that gives me warmth
Whenever I'm in times of frost

She is my mother
and I will always love her

Ashraf's Poem

I Guess I’ll Start by Saying Thank You
For All the Sweet Memories we’ve Been Through

From A Baby to a Child
You Have Always Gone the Extra Mile

Helping Me Out On Such Minor Stuff
That Just Thinking about It Makes Me Laugh

Stuff Such As the DVD Player Incident
Where I Almost Inserted My Finger In By Accident
I Just Wanted To Play Your Favorite Album
But In Turn, Caused You to Throw a Tantrum

Throughout My Pre-Teen Years
I Know I Have Been A Little Fierce
But You Had Always Lent Me Your Ears
So That I Could Easily Solve My Fears

Just Thinking of How You Raised Me since Birth
Still Creates Much Unknown Mirth

I Wish There Was A Way
In Which You Could Forever Stay This Way
But For Now I Would Just Like To Say
I Love You Mom
Amidst All the Affray

Chris' Poem

Oh mother
how i wonder
why you did so much for me
while i was still a baby
you stayed with me all day
to make sure i was safe
and to keep the monster under my bed at bay
for that i thank you

Brian's poem

Whom are you seeking?
O' one who is weeping.

Is it the one that keeps you safe,
the one that teaches you to tie your shoelace.

Should you make her sad,
that would be all so bad.

Take off your gloves,
and shower her with love.

You, she had protected,
when you were undefended.

In hell you would burn,
if from her words you turn.

For she teaches you the morals of the day,
in this world deep in fray.

This person is not your Father,
without her for sure you would falter.

His love alone is not enough for me,
this statement many can agree.

For I need the love of my mother,
And thus I say ' I love thee my mother.'

For your patience for me is indefinite,
I will cherish it like a golden trinket.

Because you see,
this world doesn't matter to me.
If you are not here to share with me.

Although I make your life a nightmare,
you still was always there for my care.

So how I shall repay you with my love?
maybe I shall give you a dove?

But one present can't be enough,
for you gave me endless stuff.

Since at a young age,
you had prepared my stage.

With your patience of a saint,
you did not scold me at the age of two when I played with paint.

You are the only one,
the one who told me your opinion.
That I may become a better person,
so I will not end up in prison.

You are the one,
that stopped me from taking toxin.
Your hope was enduring,
even higher than my expectation ceiling.

So, with your never ending love,
how am I supposed to return your love?
Maybe I can give you this poem?
In a way to express my freedom.

This fact I cannot lie,
I am still trying to apply,
all those things you thought,
and the wisdom that I sought.

In a way I sought,
to make you happy,
and so I fought,
to face the world with calamity.

I love you mother,
In a certain way more than any other.
I hope you will hold the light,
To chase away the fright of the night.

Chase the darkness away,
chase away the dismay.
I hope she will be with me,
for my final cup of tea.

A bond that will never break,
no matter how hard you shake.
I will try to uphold,
and try to be bold.

I shall try to say,
I love you amidst the fray.
